Job Description

As a member of the Loan Production Team, the Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist works with loan officers and applicants in the pre-underwriting portion of the loan application process, produces loan documents, conducts loan closings and records collateral. Commitment to superior customer service is paramount. A thorough training process is conducted for this role. The work done by the Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist protects the assets of the organization by ensuring that agreements made with borrowers are legally binding and secures those agreements with collateral.


The Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist contributes to the loan underwriting process through the collection of required documents, reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness. Communication skills are critical when working with loan applicants to ensure a timely and thorough response. The Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist is responsible for loan file development and management.

As clients move through the loan application process, the Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist provides technical assistance to them. PUCS support clients in understanding the implications, definitions, and uses of the documents we collect during the loan process. Guidance is offered via phone and email throughout the application and closing process. This includes sharing templates and resources as well as helping clients understand what to expect after their loan closes.

Members of this team are the first line of protection against fraud and must have a sharp eye for detail in documents and in filings with government entities such as the Secretary of State’s Office and County Clerks. Following the loan analysis and underwriting process, the Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist notifies the loan applicant of CEF’s commitment to fund the loan request, prepares final loan documents, and schedules and conducts the loan closing meeting. The Pre-Underwriting & Closing Specialist will pursue legal documentation related to the collateral pledged to CEF in the loan agreement with a sense of urgency and eye for detail.


  • Spanish Fluency:
    • Must be a fluent, proficient communicator in both English and Spanish for verbal interactions and written communications.
    • Writing samples in English and Spanish must be provided.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Associates degree or higher is preferred
  • Relevant Experience:
    • Administrative assistant, office manager, bank employee or other relevant experience
    • Managing and organizing documents effectively
    • Operations and/or research experience preferably in commercial lending, banking, paralegal, title company, insurance or other related industry
  • Key Skills:
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat and client resource management tools (CRM)
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including phone presence
    • Experience in office support practices and procedures
    • Demonstrate a commitment to CEF’s mission, vision, & values
    • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Collaborative team-player
    • Ability to absorb training and implement instruction

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of business and personal financial statements and tax returns
• Knowledge of standard commercial loan documentation
• Knowledge of public records filing process and documentation for business assets
• Knowledge of deeds of trust and public records request and filing process
• Experience with SBA 7a loans is a plus

Compensation: $45,000 - $48,000

  • Position is 40 hours per week.
    • Employees can set their own schedule to work five days per week between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
    • Schedule is 9:00 am to 5:30 pm during the 90 day training period.
