Small Business Spotlight: TBU Massage & Skin Spa

Tranquility, balance, and unity (TBU) are what you would hope to get out of a massage or spa experience. Founder Norma Heide, one of the first registered massage therapists in the State of Colorado, started and ran her business out of her home from 2006-2014 and built a clientele of more than 500 happy customers.

With this large customer base, Norma had to start booking appointments months out in advance, becoming less than TBU inducing for both she and her clients. It was then that Norma knew it was time to grow her business.

Norma was grateful to find out about CEF after the bank she had been with for 10+ years would not help fund her small business. "[CEF] cared enough to look at our whole picture," Norma explains about her experience.

Now, the once home practice is a full-service massage, skincare, and hair care salon with a storefront in Thornton and owned by three massage therapists and an engineer.

When COVID-19 resulted in business closures, the owners at TBU Massage knew they would need a Paycheck Protection Program loan to help them get through the shutdowns, and turned to CEF, whom they knew they could trust.

"We put everyone on an average income. Then, we took all the payroll we would have normally paid and put it into savings... We have very little loss for 2020 and are currently hiring and looking for more space."

Even this experienced business owner knows that it's okay to lean on others for help and has worked with our Business Acceleration Services team for years. "Jason Jacksack has been an Invaluable leader," she says of our BAS teammate who has helped the TBU Massage team through some sensitive and important client communications.
