Colorado Enterprise Fund Hosts FREE Workshop in Denver for Colorado Small Business Week

 

What:  Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) is hosting a free workshop during Colorado Small Business Week (May 1–7): Start-Up Financing for the First-Time Entrepreneur. Attendees will learn about loans available for first-time entrepreneurs, including specific CEF loan products available for new companies. CEF staff will share what to expect during the loan process and what in-house business advisory services CEF offers. Colorado Small Business Week is part of a national initiative presented by the Small Business Administration, and local SBA Lender Relations Specialist Bob Martin will be at the workshop to discuss SBA resources for entrepreneurs. Attendees will also meet some of CEF’s borrowers who will share their own success stories about launching their start-ups with help from CEF.

Who: CEF’s workshop is open to the public and will feature three guest speakers, all CEF borrowers who will share their personal success stories:

·         Jeremy Priest, Knotty Tie Company: Launched in 2013, Knotty Tie creates handmade, custom-designed ties, bowties, scarves and pocket squares for individuals, groups and special occasions.

·         Dan Pszanka, Tom+Chee: In 2015, Dan Pszanka opened the Denver Metro location of Tom+Chee, which specializes in creative interpretations of the classic tomato soup and grilled cheese made from fresh ingredients.

·         Fallene Wells, Let Em Have It Salon: Opened in 2013, Let Em Have It Salon is Colorado’s first certified Green Circle Salon. The salon is as committed to sustainability, entrepreneurship and community involvement as it is to art, fashion and beauty.

 

How to Register: There is no cost to register but a ticket is required for entrance. Registration is limited to 200 participants. Why: CEF Supports Colorado Small Business Week with Special Events (May 1–7)

In addition to the workshop on May 3, Colorado Enterprise Fund is partnering with the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) on additional events in Denver as part of this year’s National Small Business Week (#DreamSmallBiz) celebration in Colorado:

 

·         Monday, May 2, 11:00 am–2:00 pm:

o   Small Business Resource Fair, sponsored by Denver City and County. Webb Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave, Denver. CEF lending staff will be on hand to distribute information. Open to the public. For information, contact carrie.singer@denvergov.org.

 

·         Wednesday, May 4:

o   6:45 am–8:00 am: 9News Small Business Line – Access to Capital, with CEF Director of Lending, Alan Ramirez, and other lenders answering calls from small businesses. 9News, 500 E Speer Blvd, Denver. 303-698-0999. Plus CEF Borrower interviews Maria Empanada and Cake Crumbs at 7:45.

o   9:00 am–10:30 am: Breakfast Celebration: Colorado Women in Small Biz, with SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet (invitation only). Ceyl Prinster (President and CEO of CEF) will be a guest panelist, with CEF borrowers and staff attending. Federal Reserve Bank, 1020 16th St, Denver.

o   11:30 am–2:00 pm: SBA Colorado National Small Business Week Luncheon Awards Ceremony. CEF staff and borrowers attending. Get a free ticket here. History Colorado Center, 1200 Broadway, Denver.

o   2:30 pm–3:30 pm: SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet will talk with local Latina-owned businesses. Invited guests include CEF borrowers Lorena Cantavorici, owner of Maria Empanada and Desiree Gallegos, owner of Denver Fashion Truck.  Azucar Bakery, 1886 South Broadway, Denver.

 

·         Thursday, May 5:

o   1:30 pm–3:00 pm: Lenders Panel Discussion on financing options for small business, with CEF Director of Lending Alan Ramirez and other lenders, sponsored by Denver City and County Office of Economic Development. o   4:00 pm–5:30 pm: Microfinance Happy Hour with CEF Loan Officer Hannah Gushurst-Jones and other lenders, who will share financing eligibility and options with entrepreneurs.
