ANCO
Engineers, Inc.
How can a scientist or engineer simulate the effect
of earthquakes or the vibrations from trains and airplanes to design a
more resilient building? One way would be to use a shake table
produced by ANCO Engineers Inc., a Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) borrower
based in Boulder, Colorado.
Since 1971 ANCO Engineers, Inc. has been designing and
producing innovative systems and services for strength and
vibration testing of materials, equipment, products, and structures.
Their systems are used by university researchers, government agencies,
and private companies in over 30 countries. Because of their
global client base, they were named the SBA Small Business
Exporter of the Year 2009.
ANCO builds to stringent quality objectives to satisfy client
specifications, with each system designed to accommodate a client's
special technical requirements and budget. ANCO has a keen sense
of what their customers want because they are vibration systems users
as well as suppliers. In addition to producing systems that are
shipped to the client's location, they also perform commercial and
university level research testing in their own laboratory. “It is
the coolest thing to watch them test a building to see how it will hold
up during an earthquake,” stated CEF Director of Lending, Lewis Hagler.
Projects of this size and scope are not small or inexpensive.
Some of ANCO's clients require payment on delivery and it can take
longer than 30 days to manufacture the products. This puts
a strain on ANCO to be able to accept new jobs and still be able
to pay their employees. Colorado Enterprise Fund provided ANCO
with the loan they needed to operate through these cash flow
crunches. "They gave us a loan when other banks
wouldn't. I truly believe CEF is there to help small businesses
like ours get loans, help us grow and also to get through those
hard times," commented ANCO owner Paul Ibanez.
